VDOE T/TACs

ttac logoThe mission of Virginia’s Training and Technical Assistance Centers (T/TAC) is to improve educational opportunities and contribute to the success of children and youth with disabilities (birth-22 years).T/TACs assist the VDOE in its work toward the goals of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA). As such the staff at statewide T/TACs provide high quality personnel development and technical assistance using research-based, evidence-based, effective, and/or promising practices designed to build the capacity in early childhood programs, state operated programs, school divisions and schools. The T/TACs aim is to foster students with disabilities’: access to the general curriculum, achievement in the least restrictive environment, and knowledge and skills to make progress toward graduation. Funded by the Virginia Department of Education, the Centers provide quality training and technical assistance in response to local, regional, and state needs. T/TAC services increase the capacity of schools, school personnel, service providers, and families to meet the needs of children and youth. The statewide T/TACs offer a variety of services tailored to assist personnel working in early intervention, state operated programs and school divisions and schools including:
• Intensive technical assistance with schools in need of improvement as designated by the VDOE,
• Professional development on a variety of topics relevant to those who work with students with disabilities. Including face to face and distance learning opportunities,
• Development of materials and products to improve outcomes for young children with disabilities,
• Delivery of professional development in early childhood on evidenced based practices related to inclusive practices, curriculum/ instruction, and social and emotional competencies,
• Long-term technical assistance to programs desiring to create significant programmatic changes,
• Local in-service training and regional workshops that bring noted speakers to address state-of-the-art topics,
• T/TAC Online resources www.ttaconline.org
• E-blasts,
• Lending libraries of books, DVDs, assessment instruments, and assistive and instructional materials and technology,
• Consultations by phone, e-mail, site visits and T/TAC based visits to personnel in schools that are designated as in need of improvement and Early Intervention/Education programs
T/TACs are located at Virginia Commonwealth University (Regions 1 and 8), Old Dominion University and the College of William and Mary (Regions 2 and 3), George Mason University (Region 4), James Madison University (Region 5), and Virginia Tech and Radford University (Regions 6 and 7.)
